Vice President, Legal - Investments

ROLE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Work closely with QuadReal’s Canadian Real Estate business team on acquisitions, developments, joint ventures, dispositions, financing and other investment matters for QuadReal’s $20 billion and growing Canadian portfolio of office, industrial, residential and retail real estate assets. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will primarily:

  • Provide responsive, business-minded legal advice with respect to the development, purchase and sale of Canadian real estate assets, including review and negotiation of legal documentation such as development and construction agreements, partnership and joint venture agreements, purchase and sale agreements, asset and property management agreements, financing agreements, and legal due diligence oversight
  • Direct and oversee legal counsel on Canadian real estate investment activities
  • Work with external counsel and QuadReal’s tax team to develop, implement and maintain efficient business structures, including in developments, joint ventures, acquisitions and financing
  • Develop and maintain standard practices, legal documentation precedents, policies and best practices for Canadian real estate investments
  • Provide training and educational seminars to the Canadian Real Estate investments team and, as applicable, other parts of QuadReal’s business
  • Together with the investment and asset management teams, play a frontline role in identifying, implementing, amending, and enhancing policies and procedures, risk management practices in respect of investment and related matters
  • Establish legal budgets and approve legal invoices in connection with Canadian real estate investment transactions
  • Provide legal advice in respect of various legal issues that may arise from the Canadian real estate investments portfolio, and such other matters pertaining to any aspect of QuadReal’s business and governance as may be directed from time to time

 

Required level of education, qualification and job-related of experience:

  • Lawyer qualified to practice law in a Canadian common law province
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience
  • Considerable experience with most of the following: real estate investment transactions, real estate development, joint ventures, real estate financing, pension or private equity investments

  • Assist the Canadian Real Estate investments and asset management teams with making business and legal decisions in real estate transactions and investments
  • Makes decisions on legal matters related to Canadian real estate investments
  • Influential role in business decisions through guidance, recommendations and risk analysis regarding legal and related matters
  • Instructs external legal counsel and approves invoices
