Raymond James Ltd. is seeking a qualified Legal Counsel to work in our downtown Vancouver office.

Raymond James Ltd. is Canada’s leading independent investment dealer offering high quality investment products and services to Canadians seeking customized solutions to their wealth management needs.

This position is responsible for providing legal advice and support to departments and business lines at Raymond James, ensuring that legal risk and compliance is managed to the highest level of governance for the Company. Specifically, this role provides legal support in the areas of general corporate and commercial law, contract law, employment law, privacy, insurance and document and process management.

Specifically you will:

 Advise business units on regulatory, corporate and commercial matters in a strategic, practical, proactive and tailored manner;

 Draft and negotiate agreements between Raymond James entities and with external suppliers and clients;

 Provide legal advice to Human Resources concerning policy development, recruitment, terminations, benefits coverage and human rights matters;

 Provide guidance on regulatory and internal investigations;

 Assist in the continual improvement of processes, documentation, and practices to achieve more efficient workflow; and

 Other duties as assigned.

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

 Law degree and admitted to the bar in a Canadian jurisdiction;

 5 years’ experience in a financial services firm or corporate law firm environment; and

 Experience with securities industry compliance policies and procedures. 

The following are assets for this position if you have:

 Prior experience as in-house legal counsel within a securities dealer or within another highly regulated environment;

 Prior legal practice experience in employment law;

 Knowledge of information technology law as it relates to contracts, privacy and information technology governance.; and

 Working knowledge of both English and French

The selected candidate will have these attributes:

 Well-developed and proven customer service and interpersonal skills;

 Organized with an ability to prioritize concurring obligations; and

 Able to work with tight deadlines, works well under pressure.
