You will be responsible for providing legal advice and oversight for all leasing and property operations matters for QuadReal’s Canadian real estate portfolio comprising $20 billion of high quality office, industrial, retail and residential assets. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will primarily:

  • Deliver responsive, business-minded legal services to QuadReal’s Canadian leasing and operations business teams, directly and through QuadReal’s lease documentation team and external legal resources
  • Lead and oversee QuadReal’s lease document generation and legal terms negotiation
  • Establish and plan production resources, performance targets and standards for QuadReal’s leasing and operations legal services, including our lease documentation services team
  • Oversee and manage QuadReal’s lease documentation team drafting, negotiating and reviewing leasing documentation
  • Provide training and educational seminars for QuadReal’s leasing, operations and legal teams
  • Establish, implement and maintain legal precedents, standards, processes and procedures in respect of leasing and operations, including master lease forms and related leasing documents
  • Supervise and, together with business teams, direct external legal counsel in various leasing and operations legal matters, including lease and contract negotiation and interpretation, sourcing of strategic legal advice, dispute resolution and litigation, etc.
  • Together with the leasing and operations business teams, play a frontline role in identifying, implementing, amending, and enhancing risk management policies and practices in respect of leasing and operations matters
  • Establish and cause the maintenance of QuadReal’s leasing and operations legal documentation tracking, filing and information systems (e.g., status reports, database and workflow management systems)
  • Review, approve and track external legal bills in respect of leasing and operations matters

 

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Required level of education, qualifications, and job-related experience:

  • Lawyer qualified to practice law in a Canadian common law province
  • Minimum seven years legal lease drafting and negotiation experience in a leading real estate legal department. In house legal leasing experience considered a valuable asset
  • Strong real estate background and business acumen
  • Experience managing a legal services team

  • Assist the Canadian leasing and operations teams with making business and legal decisions
  • Make decisions on legal matters related to the ongoing ownership and operation of Canadian real estate assets
  • Influential role in business decisions through guidance, recommendations and risk analysis regarding legal and related matters
  • Instruct external legal counsel and approves invoices
