Reporting to the City Manager, the City Solicitor leads the Legal and Real Estate Services department and provides advisory services to Council and the corporation. With a team of 22 professionals in the areas of Municipal Law, Litigation, Real Estate Law, Employment & Labour, Planning and Administrative Tribunal Law, Transit Expansion, and Prosecution, the City Solicitor is a key resource on all matters related to legal risk, litigation, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiation. As the City continues to grow, the City Solicitor will play an integral role in planning and development issues and represent the Corporation at hearings before the Ontario Municipal Board/Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.

With your Bachelor of Laws and more than 10 years of experience focused on municipal law, you have managed and coached a team of staff. You are a seasoned litigator and well regarded for your depth of knowledge in planning and development law. You are skilled in conducting hearings before the courts, particularly the OMB/LPAT, as well as drafting, negotiating, structuring, and advising on various types of contracts. A persuasive communicator and mediator, you have presented in public forums, and directly advise councils, boards, and committees on the best course of action.
