Reporting to the VP, General Counsel & Secretary, the Legal Counsel will act as a primary liaison for customers and co-workers who are involved in all facets of the bottling and distribution business and spread across the country.  The Legal Counsel will work closely with the CCCBL legal team to improve the efficiency of commercial operations, including supply chain, sales and customer contracts, real estate, labour & employment, marketing, regulatory, finance, governance and other matters. In addition, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for:

 

  • Drafting and negotiating customer agreements, procurement and technology agreements, real estate and other varied commercial transactions
  • Review of corporate materials and business documents, including marketing and promotional materials, press releases, presentations and policies
  • Providing creative and strategic legal advice and support for multiple areas of law – corporate/commercial, employment & privacy, regulatory & competition, litigation assessment and support, insurance and risk management
  • Assisting finance and internal controls staff to ensure compliant financial reporting, audit and governance
  • Indirect management and review of the work of other members of the CCCBL legal team
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and agreements
  • Training and education of business associates, both remotely and in live presentations
  • Management of outside counsel

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Canadian Law degree or equivalent; strong academic results

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in private practice and two years’ in-house experience; qualified to practice in Canada
  • Ability to handle multiple complex projects and carefully prioritize work
  • Must be proactive and a self-starter
  • Embraces and drives change; constantly seeks to learn and develop
  • Strong communications skills, including oral, written and presentation; ability to influence varied clients, up to and including senior executives; ability to communicate complex legal topics to all business clients
  • Drives performance, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Business-minded; understands that the best in-house counsel are business people with law degrees
  • Flexibility and approachability
  • Solution-oriented, thinks pragmatically and strategically
  • Ability to work in French an asset, although not a requirement
  • Capability with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel
