Associate Privacy Officer

Summary
As part of the Legal & Internal Audit Services Division, reporting to, and under the supervision of, the Senior Legal Counsel & Privacy Officer, the Associate Privacy Officer will manage HOOPP’s Privacy Office and continue to develop and enhance HOOPP’s privacy program.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

With direction and support from, and under the supervision of, the Senior Legal Counsel & Privacy Officer, the Associate Privacy Officer is responsible to:

  • Oversee and monitor the continued development and implementation of HOOPP’s privacy program
  • Conduct assessment of HOOPP’s privacy program and make recommendations to Privacy Officer
  • Update, revise and develop privacy policies, practices, and the breach response plan
  • Maintain and update privacy statements and notices on HOOPP’s website and forms
  • Maintain privacy incident log and other privacy incident documentation
  • Collaborate closely with IT security team and business stakeholders to respond to, investigate, and resolve privacy incidents
  • Draft responses to member inquiries and ensure timely and effective communication with members
  • Identify privacy risks and make recommendations to Privacy Officer, communicate and follow-up on recommendations to stakeholders
  • Provide input and guidance on privacy-related matters for organizational projects/initiatives
  • Promote HOOPP’s privacy program and create a privacy culture of collaboration and trust with internal stakeholders and HOOPP members
  • Develop, deliver and/or support employee educational or training initiatives on privacy matters
  • Create and maintain privacy library
 
Qualifications and Skills
  • At least 5 years privacy experience in similar role
  • Post-secondary degree in related field or combination of education and experience with continuing professional development in privacy
  • Privacy professional certification is an asset
  • Data/information security knowledge is an asset
  • Law degree from an accredit law school is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of privacy laws
  • Excellent technical, analytical, communication and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter and pro-active problem-solving skills
