Legal Counsel

An exciting opportunity with a growing casino corporation with operations across Canada! Under the direction of the VP, Legal,  the Legal Counsel performs a variety of legal activities to protect the organization’s reputation and business interests in Ontario and ensures that the organization complies with all relevant laws and regulations.  Provides effective advice, guidance and direction in legal matters to colleagues, and ensures a positive and professional work experience for all. Sound corporate commercial background, with focus on Corporate Governance and Anti-Money Laundering.


Duties and responsibilities for our next Legal Counsel will include:

  • Supporting and stewarding a sound legal environment across all Ontario properties
  • Providing legal expertise and effective leadership for all sites
  • Oversight and guidance provided by Senior Legal Counsel to Contract and Compliance Managers
  • Analyzing and interpreting case law, court reports and proposed and existing laws and regulations to prepare technical reports on how they impact the organization's operations
  • Preparing and reviewing legal contracts, and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial and operational matters
  • Preparing materials for and work with VP, and external legal counsel, when applicable
  • Ensuring compliance with all gaming partnership agreements (legal reporting and other)
  • Maintaining sound up-to-date understanding and knowledge of the gaming business, compliance and legal issues and practices, as well as the technology required to effectively fulfill responsibilities
  • Ensuring compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations in Ontario

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent
  • Called to the Ontario Bar and licensed with Law Society of Upper Canada
  • Minimum 4 years of post-university experience
  • Business degree preferred or suitable combination of post-secondary education and experience
  • Ability to exceed internal and external customer expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication
  • Advanced computer proficiency in MS Office suite
  • A curious analytical mind, strong attention to detail and quick learner
  • Ability and willingness to work under a strictly regulated data management environment
