Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel the incumbent works closely with other team members, IATA Senior Legal Counsel, Assistant General Counsel and the General Counsel to deliver professional legal services to IATA. The Legal Counsel is an active member of the IATA Legal team contributing to the Legal team's goals and vision.

Responsibilities

 

Deliver legal services to IATA relating to all aspects of IATA's business; including, commercial matters, corporate compliance matters, human resources matters and regulatory matters as directed; 
Draft various instruments (contracts, leases, powers of attorney etc.) and provide legal opinions in cross-divisional matters under the direction and supervision of Senior Legal Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, Deptuy General Counsel and the General Counsel; 
Participate in special projects; Participate in or lead training sessions on legal issues for IATA staff members; Actively contribute to team discussions; 
Conduct legal research; Maintain records of work in accordance with Legal team processes; 
Participate in continuing professional development opportunities; 
Instruct external counsel on IATA legal matters; 

Participate in formal legal team meetings, take minutes of meetings and assist in the planning of annual legal team meetings; 
Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, report material and other documentation (agendas, submissions etc.) for the IATA Legal Committee, related working groups and such other external or governmental fora; 
Contribute to the development of the Legal team's processes including the intranet site and Legal team wiki; 
Perform any other tasks relating to the provision of legal services as assigned by the General Counsel.

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

 

University degree in law,(B.C.L, LLB or JD), from an internationally recognized university; 


Admission to practice law in a civil or common law jurisdiction; 
Excellent knowledge of contract and commercial law; 
a minimum of 2 years experience in a law firm or legal department in an organization post university degree; 

Highly developed capacity for legal reasoning and research, with a strong focus on quality and attention to detail; 
Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated capacity to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines; 
Superior written and oral communication skills; 
Client orientated, with a practical ‘results driven’ approach; 
Excellent command of English, with any other language an asset.
