As legal counsel based in Toronto for the Legal Group of the Americas Region, reporting to the Americas General Counsel and working with the legal teams in New York, Seattle, and San Francisco, you will advise with respect to all legal questions, and more specifically relating to engineering and public-private partnership (PPP) projects, and various agreements with clients, partners, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Prepare, review, comment and negotiate tender documents, proposals and draft contracts and other relevant legal documentation, for local and international engineering projects and PPPs in a variety of markets for the business unit (ex: rail and transit, buildings, highway and bridges, aviation, environment and geo-sciences, ports and marine)
• Participate in the negotiation process of various contracts with clients, and with partner, subcontractors and suppliers
• Advising on bid documentation and inputting in executive committee to help go/no go decision
• Have responsibility for contract disputes and potential breach of contract issues with clients
• Assist with insurance related issues including annual renewals and quarterly claim updates.
• Assist with corporate matters, registration and licensing issues, including state and board of engineers. 
• Advise on new legislative and regulatory requirements and recommend changes to Arup global policies and administration as appropriate
• Work closely with internal clients, engineers and management in order to maximize projects and minimize risk
• Developing the understanding of legal issues and their significance and relevance within the Arup community
• Developing and delivering legal training to all-level engineers in different groups and offices
• Supporting staff groups in Toronto and Montreal

• Relevant experience in engineering / construction industry
• Member of the Ontario Bar required 
• Extensive knowledge and experience in the field of contract law and related areas, ideally gained within an in-house team
• Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem solving environment
• Able to quickly develop successful client relationships
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential
• Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
• Able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness
• Highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges
• Proven ability to work as part of a team, in a multidisciplinary environment
• Availability for travel outside the province and country
• French is an asset
• Minimum of five years experience
