Andritz is looking to hire a senior lawyer in Canada primarily to support its Canadian Hydro Power business. The successful candidate will provide legal and contractual risk management support for all stages of hydropower projects including reviewing, commenting, drafting and assisting in the negotiation of various project contracts as well as providing advice on various project management matters including management of claims, litigation, arbitration or other dispute resolution procedures. The candidate will manage external counsel when necessary, and will be consulted to render advice regarding various day-to-day operational matters. The candidate will travel primarily within Canada, with occasional travel to the US and Europe for Legal Department matters. The candidate will also provide sales and operational support to other businesses in Canada, such as Pulp & Paper.
The candidate must posses enough seniority and exposure to sales contract and project execution issues to walk into the job with little or no supervision (8+ years of relevant experience). The position will be located in Pointe-Claire and will be the sole internal lawyer in Canada. The position reports to the Andritz Regional General Counsel for North America, based in Atlanta, GA, and participate as an integral part of the Andritz North American Legal Department, which consists of 16 people. The Andritz global Legal Department consists of approximately 50 lawyers in 10 countries, and the Andritz Group General Counsel is based in Atlanta.
The candidate must possess strong legal and analytical skills acquired in a company law department or a law firm. The candidate must have: good judgement; sound business acumen; strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills as well as excellent communication and diplomatic skills and strong work ethic and personal integrity. The successful candidate will: adapt quickly to new situations; handle many files at the same time and prioritize work appropriately; assess and manage risk (legal and commercial) and be solution-oriented. The candidate should be comfortable discussing and defending advice with clients of all levels, including upper management. The candidate must be fluently bilingual and must be able to negotiate and review common law based contracts. Previous in-house experience is strongly preferred; labor and employment counseling experience is a plus.
