The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Provincial statute offences. In partnership with Crown Prosecutors, this position is responsible for the control and management of 200+ files per day; ensuring each file is properly tracked, updated with the most current information and organized according to the docket sheets provided by the Court. This critical role is essential in assisting the Crown Prosecutors attending docket court. 
Our Litigation Assistants are also responsible for attending court with our Crown Prosecutors to provide support relating to the preparation and processing of court case files. This assists with providing efficiencies within the operation of that courtroom due to the large volume of hard-copy and electronic case files. As the Litigation Assistant you will be required to address and forward urgent matters for follow-up and immediate attention, as well as update the Prosecutor Information System Manager (PRISM) with the most current data as docket court is in session.
Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Serving as the primary point of contact for Crown Prosecutors, Defence Counsel, Court Clerks, and other legal professionals and stakeholders throughout the docket process
- Ensuring that dissemination of information is accurate and ensuring that knowledge management principles are implemented
- Verifying files are correctly endorsed and are prepared to be elevated to the next phase of the court
- Utilizing various computer databases systems

The ideal candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of Criminal Justice System
- Exceptional computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PRISM and JOIN
- Outstanding data entry skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional organizational ability and attention to detail
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Capable of working in a high volume and demanding environment 
- Ability to manage competing priorities in tight timelines
- Maturity and professionalism at all times when dealing with Crown Prosecutors, Defense Counsel or the general public




A High School Diploma plus a minimum of two years of related administrative assistant experience in a legal environment is required. 

A Legal Assistant Diploma would be considered an asset. 

Criminal law experience is preferred.

Equivalencies will be considered.




$1,691.44 to $ 2,066.65 bi-weekly ($44,147 to $53,940 annually)




We are recruiting for both Permanent and Temporary Full-Time positions - these positions are located in Edmonton.
