Golder is currently seeking an Associate General Counsel with relevant experience gained from a top law firm or in-house environment and a strong background in the engineering and construction industries.

Effective communication skills, self-motivation and the ability to work independently within an entrepreneurial team environment are essential attributes required for this role. As a key member of the legal team based in Montreal, Mississauga, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, or Ottawa, you have 12 to 15 years of experience in providing a broad range of legal services to the engineering and construction industry. Fluency in French, both written and spoken, are strong assets. This position will report to the General Counsel, located in Mississauga, Ontario.

 

An overview of your role will include: 

 
  • Supporting the General Counsel and the Global Legal Leadership team on matters of national and international importance

  • Providing mentorship and leadership within the Canadian Legal Team and various business units

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating engineering and construction contracts, procurement contracts, commercial agreements and associated documents, primarily in the fields of:

    • Infrastructure
    • Manufacturing
    • Power
    • Oil & Gas
    • Mining
    • Geotechnical and Environmental Services

  • Review and negotiation of the following types of agreements: Design Build: Project Management and Construction Management; EP, EPCM (complex domestic and international at risk and as agent)

  • Providing legal support related to employment law, health & safety, corporate governance, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, tax and enterprise risk management

  • Actively managing a diverse portfolio of claims, litigation and arbitration disputes (including supervision of outside counsel)

  • Providing strategic advice for litigation decisions and reviewing pleadings, motions, discovery and other legal documents

  • Working closely with all business units and providing a strategic blend of business and legal advice to employees at all levels in the organization

  • Facilitating risk management and contracts training

 
 
 

You will have a background in:

 
  • 12 to 15 years of related industry experience;

  • Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a provincial bar;

  • In-house experience working with an international organization;

  • An enthusiastic team player, who works well both individually and with others, in a fast-paced environment;

  • Preventing, Mitigating and Settling Engineering and Construction Claims

  • An ability to provide sound business and legal advice to all levels of the company
