Corporate Law Clerk

Job Overview

The Corporate Law Clerk provides personalized support and service in a professional manner to decision makers at FirstOntario Credit Union. They will provide recommendations and investigative support for legal services around upcoming projects and be creative in their problem solving for unique contract language for vendors.
In the role, you will…
Perform accurate legal research and analysis with a focus on the Credit Union Act and government relations
Support General Counsel in the interpretation of laws, rulings and regulations
Compile, proofread and revise drafts of legal documents and reports
Support in the drafting of legal agreements and contracts
Maintain and update databases and tracking systems, investigating existing contracts, review and make recommendations for future adaptations 
Liaise with General Counsel, making recommendations and legal decisions
Help with the establishment of procurement protocols, including the development of RFP’s for corporate purchases
Work with the Project Management Office to keep General Counsel apprised of upcoming projects requiring legal involvement
Work with the Governance team to provide support as neccesary
Help prepare General Counsel for meetings with regulators and all three levels of government
Provide legal advice to the Retail division on a timely basis upon request, or assist on sourcing third party advice 
Assist in measuring and monitoring of legal spend
Stay on top of industry trends and law changes, making recommendations on tools, services, protocols and standards in support and development efforts
Perform other duties as required
Required Skills
Within your skills and qualifications, you will…
Have a solid business acumen with your post-secondary degree in the field of Business Economics, Political Science, or a Law Clerk or Paralegal diploma or certificate 
Have experience within a legal environment with a focus in financial services preferred 
Be nimble and an organized multi-tasker that thrives in a fast pace, time-sensitive, high volume environment
Show off your strong analytical and problem solving skills with a keen attention to detail in working with legal systems, contractual language and legal documents
Apply strong decision making skills with a degree of discretion (as provided)
