How your role will add to the story:
We’re looking for a Junior Lawyer. In this role, you will work with the General Counsel to achieve successful resolution of legal issues with respect to company's business activities.
 
A day in the life:
• You will prepare, draft, and analyze contracts and contract terms related to a variety of customer, vendor, trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters to protect Mercedes-Benz Canada's legal and business interests and to ensure Mercedes-Benz Canada's commercial rights are protected through negotiating and drafting agreements.
• You will be responsible to ensure that Mercedes-Benz Canada's departments are properly informed of legal issues relating to their activities by consultation, communication and maintenance of sufficient familiarity of privacy law, consumer protection, competition law, employment, franchise/dealer, contract, construction and real estate.
• You will ensure, with respect to controllable cost, compliance with annual operating budget by monitoring overtime, reviewing and approving outside counsel costs.
• You will provide legal support with respect to complex business transactions including contract interpretation, attending and leading meetings, drafting and responding to key communications, issue resolution and dispute management.
• You will advise business on legal trends and developing areas of law; Perform other duties in support of the Legal Department, as assigned.
 
Mercedes-Benz Fan skills, requirements & traits:
• 1-3 year of experience as a Junior lawyer in a law firm or in-house experience 
• Admission to Ontario Bar License required 
• Strong understanding of contracts legal principles and In-house experience with contractual agreements is highly desired
• Ability to provide support, advice and legal counsel regarding specific deals. Including editing, drafting, negotiating and legal research
• Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner; must work well with minimal supervision and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Detail oriented, capable of handling heavy, multi-layered client, and be extremely responsive to tight turn around schedules for many transactions.
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• Must be able to work flexible hours/work schedule
• Knowledge of retail processes and procedures
• Knowledge of fundamental business practices and concepts that impact the success and profitability of the organization
• Knowledge of laws, precedents, government regulations, as they relate to the automotive industry.
• Knowledge of the principles and methodology for a process-orientated, integrated approach to procuring, producing, and delivering products and services to customers
