Our Intellectual Property practice group is recognized as one of the leading teams in Canada, and we are looking to grow! To meet the demand for our services, our Montreal office is looking for an applicant seeking admission to the Patent Agent profession.

The Role

The successful candidate will join a leading national intellectual property team with a proven track record of providing high-quality patent drafting and prosecuting services to a loyal client base, both locally and globally, and for obtaining new mandates from a quality business clientele.

In this role, the successful candidate will be required to read and analyze invention disclosures and patents, draft technical descriptions of inventions, and draft reports and opinions on infringement, freedom to manufacture, patentability and validity issues.

Over the next few years, the selected candidate will be required to take part in the national exams to become a patent agent.

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will:  

  • be perfectly bilingual, with excellent English writing skills;
  • have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics or physics;
  • have basic knowledge of electricity, computers (hardware and software), electronics, power, optics, and telecommunications;
  • have the ability to explain complex technical information clearly and good analytical skills;
  • be a team player;
  • have an interest in law;
  • have an ability to build excellent relationships with clients;
  • have an excellent work ethic;
  • be a self-starter who can work under pressure, manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines and find creative solutions to problems.

  • graduate studies;
  • studies in law;
  • experience with patents.
