  • Your Challenge
  • As a member of the Legal Services team assigned to support the Members' HR Services, the Legal Counsel provides comprehensive and expert legal advice and services to Members of Parliament and officials of the House of Commons in a professional, non-partisan, confidential and timely manner, particularly in the area of human resources and employment.

  • Prerequisites
  • Education
    • Law degree from a recognized university;
    • Membership in good standing with the Bar of a Canadian province or territory.
    • Significant experience in providing expert legal advice on public law issues;
    • Recent experience in providing strategic and timely legal advice (both orally and in writing) to senior officials in respect of complex legal issues, particularly in the area of employment law.
  • Competencies
  • Selected candidates will be evaluated against the Office of the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel Competency Profile – Parliamentary Counsel.

  • Outcome
  • The purpose of this recruitment and selection process is to staff the position of Legal Counsel on an indeterminate or temporary basis and to establish a list of potential candidates that may be considered in the future to staff Legal Counsel positions. Potential candidates may also be considered for other temporary or indeterminate positions requiring similar competencies at the House of Commons.

    • Selected candidates who do not have valid second language evaluation (SLE) results will be assessed. To be considered, candidates must meet minimum results of BBB at their Second Language evaluation.
