Legal Counsel

“LG Electronics Canada is seeking a Legal Counsel with 3-5 years of compliance and regulatory experience, ideally acquired from a major manufacturer, distributor or retailer. The successful candidate has experience practicing corporate, commercial or regulatory law as in-house counsel, in a law firm or a combination of both. The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and will be responsible for the day to day operation of the compliance and governance functions of the Canadian operation.”

Responsibilities

 Reports directly to the General Counsel
 Provide advice and support to a range of business units across the company and work with all levels of the organization, including senior management
 Primary focus is on managing the company’s regulatory affairs, as well as drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements and legal documents
 Manage a variety of legal matters 
 Support the General Counsel in resolving complex legal issues
 Excellent opportunity for a talented commercial or regulatory lawyer to gain broad-based commercial in-house experience

Qualifications

Education level and/or relevant experience(s)

 

 5 years of experience practicing corporate, commercial or regulatory law as in-house counsel, in a law firm or a combination of both. In-house experience in a regulated environment is preferred but relevant law firm experience will also be considered.
 Demonstrated experience dealing with regulatory matters is essential, including knowledge of one or more of the following areas: marketing and advertising; product safety and liability; environment and product recycling; product manufacturing, distribution and supply chain; privacy; and health and safety. Experience working with government agencies and/or regulators is an asset. Exposure to regulations specific to consumer electronics, telecommunications and major home appliances is also an asset.
 Experience drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements is strongly preferred; experience with agreements relating to the sale and distribution of commercial goods is particularly valuable
 Proficiency in drafting legal documents in both English and French is a strong asset
 Excellent business acumen 
 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and a proactive approach to addressing client concerns; demonstrated experience handling complex matters and transactions from beginning to end with minimal supervision
 Demonstrated ability to work in a team and with different levels of management
 Experience working in a sales organization is an asset
 Exposure to any of the following areas of law is also considered an asset: employment, competition, procurement or litigation
 A positive attitude and eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
