What You’ll Be Doing

With about 50 lawyers working from offices in Toronto, Montreal, New York, London and Hong Kong, CIBC Legal manages legal outcomes by providing a full range of legal and transactional support services to CIBC’s businesses worldwide. The successful candidate will provide legal support to CIBC’s Capital Markets line of business for Derivatives regulatory matters.

 

How You’ll Succeed

·  Legal Advice and Counsel - Providing business-focused legal advice in a dynamic role that includes advice on the regulatory regimes impacting OTC derivatives and other capital markets products to assist with the mitigation of legal risk to CIBC Capital Markets.

·  Advice on Derivatives – Advising on developments in legislation, regulation  and case law impacting derivatives and capital markets products. Manage legal documents and agreements to meet the requirements of various regulatory frameworks (including the Dodd Frank Act or similar regulatory requirements). Review and summarize industry-published legal opinions regarding the enforceability of derivatives and capital markets contracts globally, and create an inventory of those opinions.  Assist in projects related to regulatory changes impacting capital markets products.

·  Working collaboratively - Partnering with lawyers within the Legal Department and with multiple stakeholders across Capital Markets line of business. Working with operational groups to assist in the implementation of the margin rules in respect of non-cleared derivatives and the discontinuation or amendment of financial benchmarks such as LIBOR.

 

Who You Are

·        You’re a certified professional.  Successful Candidate must have been called to the Bar in Ontario with experience in securities regulatory or OTC derivatives practice.  OTC derivatives experience is not a prerequisite but some experience with securities regulation is preferred.

·        You can demonstrate experience with knowledge of derivatives and / or securities regulatory regimes, and of industry agreements( including the ISDA Master Agreement and related agreements) published in response to those regulatory regimes.  Familiarity with ISDA regulatory documentation, including initiatives related to margin requirements, the Dodd Frank Act and equivalent rules globally is preferred.
