The paralegal will work directly with our litigation lawyer in Vancouver to support the litigation case files from start to settlement or trial. The paralegal will also be responsible for managing all small claims matters and collection matters. The ideal candidate has experience working in a litigation department, with some experience in insurance. The paralegal must be organized, professional, responsible, and excels at serving clients.

 

 

 

Main responsibilities

  • Support the lawyer in drafting pleading and court filings (Notice of Civil Claim, Response to Civil Claim, Lists of Documents, Mediation briefs, Applications, Trial Briefs etc.)
  • Draft case summaries of medical reports and expert reports
  • Prepare materials for expert reports
  • Monitor and obtain discovery responses
  • Organize and maintain in paper and electronic filing systems
  • File court documents using BC Online – Court Services Online
  • Manage small claims and collections matters
  • Maintain the schedule for all steps in the litigation
  • Support the lawyer during trial with exhibits, note taking and organizing case law authorities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience

  • Paralegal certificate
  • For vacant positions available in Quebec, please note that knowledge of French is required

 

Specific knowledge

  • Knowledge of BC civil litigation rules of procedure.
  • Proficient in MS Office, BC Online-Court Services Online, and document management software.
