Overview of the opportunity:

The Associate Lawyer is responsible for advising clients and employees in obtaining work permits (IMP and TFW), visas, PR and any other Canadian immigration needs in a timely and efficient manner. This role requires excellent multi-tasking skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of clients, including HR representatives, senior-level personnel and internal team members.
What you will do:


  • Manage Canadian caseload with strong emphasis of permanent residency applications;
  • Assess individual cases to determine appropriate work permit category as well as analyze and resolve any potential issues that arise;
  • Prepare visa/work permit applications and provide advice throughout the entire process;
  • Review job descriptions to determine occupation codes and relevant prevailing wage;
  • Review corporate documentation to assess qualifying relationships;
  • Draft submission letters and complete forms as needed;
  • Guide and advise immigration administrators;
  • Advise clients with respect to long term immigration strategy and legislative changes.
Client Care 
  • Serve as point of contact for the client/employee, manage client relationships and address any issues related to quality, time standards and communication as appropriate.
  • Responsible for training immigration administrator/support staff;
  • Communicate department standards and expectations;
  • Accountable for performance standards and results of all direct reports;
  • Actively participate in all firm initiatives;
  • Conduct probationary and annual performance reviews for all direct reports;
  • Keep the practice leader abreast of issues that may provide a risk for the firm;
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and honesty in all client interactions;
  • Continue to upgrade skills and knowledge to remain competitive and progressive within the firm;
  • Accountable for positive results including increased revenue, cost containment and proactive expense control; and
  • Oversee file management for the team;
  • Ensure that all client documents are saved into internal database system;
  • Ensure files are opened correctly and that the client contact information is recorded accurately;
  • Review invoices for accuracy.
What you bring to the role:
  • Law degree along with admission to the Barreau du Québec;
  • 2-5 years of experience with Canadian Corporate Immigration Law with knowledge of Quebec-specific immigration processes;
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills within a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines;
  • Strong organizational and computer skills (proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English and French).
